What happens at the end of a contract?

IT Contracts in Canberra generally run from financial year to financial year although they may start with a shorter period ie; 6 months, and have extension options.

Federal Government usually engages IT Contractors for a specific task or project, and these are often dependent of funding approval so use of the extension options, taking work into the next financial year, can often be a decision that is held up until very close to the end of your engagement period.

Once the task or project is complete, your contract will come to a natural end, and you will need to search for a new role.

There are many IT Specialists in Canberra who have built strong careers as contractors and experience very little down time, if any, between their contract engagements.

At Recruitment Sorted we work to understand your skills experience and career aspirations.  Throughout your contract engagement we keep in close contact to not only ensure you’re enjoying the role and that all is going well but to discuss your plans for when the contract period ends. Just because there a contract has extension options, doesn’t mean that you are obliged to stay – if you feel it’s time for a new challenge, we will work with you to find a new opportunity to allow a smooth transition from one client to another.

The key to achieving this is building a strong relationship with a recruiter who understands your skills and experience and can help in transitioning to new contracts as each engagement comes to an end.  Our Talent Manager Sharon has been doing this for more than 15 years and would be happy to chat with you about how we can assist you in your next contract engagement.
